ABSTRACT

The German Foundation Interkultur was founded in 2003 by its parent organisation, Foundation anstiftung & ertomis, to support a new type of urban 'intercultural' gardening. The Foundation Interkultur was founded in 2003 as a semi-independent operating body of the charitable Foundation anstiftung which seeks to foster sustainable lifestyles and to develop alternative models of societal welfare by means of investigating and supporting 'commons, do-it-yourself and sustainable regionalization'. The approach of Foundation Interkultur was described by an interviewee as the provision of a platform for existing activities in order to 'unfold power which already exists'. The Foundation's engagement was based on a dual motivation. Both Foundation Interkultur and the Foundation anstiftung have largely operated in a highly positive and supportive environment. The motivation to create social impact played an important role for the Foundation.
