ABSTRACT

The Chance Foundation was established in 1999 as a spending-down trust by a private founder. It does not rely on the interest of its endowment, but the whole asset may be spent for operative purposes. The Chance Foundation started its operations in 2000. It was founded by a successful businessman who knew the aforementioned problems first-hand. The Chance's approach is characterised by a tailor-made and comprehensive arrangement for their participants that seeks to 'channel' them into, through and out of apprenticeship. The impact of The Chance resides primarily on an individual level. It is of a broad and comprehensive nature that is not limited to the number of certificates or contracts. In organisational terms, success consists in the fact that the organisation has become part of the established cantonal infrastructure and is viewed as a legitimate actor by other stakeholders in the field, as well as by the public.
