ABSTRACT

Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) is an interdisciplinary field that is influenced by academic disciplines and vested interest groups (e.g. practitioners, academics, funders, policy-makers, governmental bodies, multilateral institutions, corporations, international non-governmental organizations, independent consultants) from both sport and non-sport sectors (e.g. non-profit management, international development, peacebuilding efforts, corporate social responsibility). These multiple spheres of influence can create challenges for understanding what constitutes research within SDP and what evidence currently exists about SDP. This chapter examines current trends and challenges related to SDP research. Notably, current theoretical, philosophical, methodological, and disciplinary trends in SDP research are discussed in an effort to explore future directions for SDP research.
