ABSTRACT

There are three common ways of introducing, or implementing, change into organisations: Big bang implementation, Phased implementation and Parallel running. Big bang implementation is where all change happens at once. Phased implementation is where change is introduced in smaller chunks, and the change takes a while to be fully introduced. In parallel running, users work in both the new ways and the old ways for a period of time. Making the decision to go ahead with implementation is a very big milestone in change journey. The business readiness assessment is a checklist of all the preparation needed by stakeholders in order for the organisation to be ready to commence implementation of the change. The period of implementation and the weeks following can often feel chaotic and out of control. There will be lots of queries from the users for at least a few weeks after implementation. When change is implemented into an organisation, a short-term decline in performance often occurs.
