ABSTRACT

Communications can be a very powerful and effective engagement initiative but are often complex and challenging to get right. Creating a formal plan will increase the success of communication initiatives. Just like the change management plan, there is no set way to put together a communications plan so develop it in a format which is familiar to the organisation and stakeholders. An individual needs to be clear which stakeholder group each communication is aimed at. The communications channel is how he/she chooses to send communication out. One-way channels send communications out to recipients with no opportunity for them to respond, making them passive receivers of the information. Two-way channels enable information to be given out to recipients and for them to respond, making them active participants in the communication. Organisations communicate with their staff on a regular basis. It is important to establish good relationships with any corporate communications teams.
