ABSTRACT

A M A N caught a bird by cunning in a trap. The bird said to the man, ‘Noble sir, you have eaten many oxen and sheep, you have sacrified many camels, yet you have never been sated by them. Surely you will not become sated by devouring my little joints. Permit me to give you three pieces of advice, so that you may recognize me for wise or a fool. The first advice I will give you on your hand, the second on your plastered roof, the third on the tree. From these three counsels you will gain good luck. What I have to say on your hand is this: Don’t believe an absurdity from anyone.’
