ABSTRACT

The Arab went on arguing in the presence of the sweettempered Prophet, until he passed all bounds. Then that monarch of By the star, that sultan of He frowned bit his lip in anger.

‘Enough!’ he cried, laying his hand on the foolish fellow’s mouth to restrain him. ‘How long will you speak in the presence of one who knows the hidden things? You consider only external appearances. Regard him not as a mere stripling, lacking accomplishments. Many a black beard adorns a man old in experience; many a white beard goes with a heart as black as pitch. I have tested his intelligence time and again; though young, he has handled affairs with the shrewdness of age.
