ABSTRACT

Each chieftain cast his lance, testing to dam the flood. Then the Prophet cast his wand, even that sovereign insuperable wand. The swift waters of that boiling, wayward torrent swept their lances away like a scrap of straw. All the lances vanished; whilst that wand stood like a sentinel on the surface

of the waters. Mindful of that wand, the heaped torrent turned aside and the flood departed.
