ABSTRACT

Grounded in every virtue, he knows at the present moment all that shall transpire after twenty years. Not only his own estate is patent to that God-fearer; he sees the situation of every dweller in West and East. The Light makes its dwelling in his eye and heart; and why? Because of love of the home land. He is like Joseph, who beheld at the first in a dream the moon and the sun prostrated before him; ten years later, or more, that which Joseph had seen came to pass. Not idly did the Prophet say, “ The believer sees by the Light of God” ; the Light Divine cleaves the skies asunder. That Light dwells not in your eye. Be gone! You are in pawn to the animal senses. Being weak of vision, you see only what is before your foot; you are weak yourself, and your guide is weak. The eye is the guide for hand and foot, seeing both the right and the wrong place. Moreover, my eye is brighter; moreover, my nature is purer, for I am a child born of lawful wedlock, not a child of adultery doomed to perdition. You are one of the children of adultery; doubtless the arrow flies crookedly, when the bow is ev il.’
