ABSTRACT

A M I S E R A B L E pauper who had suffered a thousand agonies by reason of his dire indigence constantly supplicated God in prayer and invocation.

‘Lord and Guardian of the shepherds of men,’ he would cry, ‘without any effort of mine Thou createdst me. Give me my daily bread of this worldy abode without my contrivance. Thou gavest me the five jewels in the casket of my head, like wise five other senses invisible. This bounty of Thine is beyond number and reckoning; I am too halting of speech and too shamefast to declare it. Since Thou art alone in the work of creating me, undertake equally the task of provisioning me. ’
