ABSTRACT
The evolution of legal and social justice in America often has found itself pulled between the philosophical and religious aspects of Western and Eastern ancient spiritual and wisdom traditions. Such old-age traditions include Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Native American thought. The perceived tensions found within and between these traditions of retribution, rehabilitation and restoration, and punishment and reform, have been substantial.
