ABSTRACT

In a final short text, (In)conclusion, Schutzman engages a literary strategy of numbered fragments to underscore and perform aspects of the Joker System showcased throughout the book: open-ended inquiry, incessant questioning of knowledge, experimentation, and embrace of the digressions, postponements, and irresolutions that characterize all viable narratives. Stylistically inspired by philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (whose voluminous papers were lists of leftovers, citations, notes, and unanswered questions), Schutzman reflects on the nature of endings themselves, with brief and whimsical forays into TV, jokes, anthropology, and surrealism. In a gesture akin to the Joker System, she bestows all further authorship and decision making to the reader.
