ABSTRACT

Compositing is the ability to combine multiple layers of video in a single screen and have them interact with one another. This capability adds great depth to FCP. Any visual element in the Timeline can have its opacity adjusted. This is perhaps easiest done in the Video inspector. This chapter looks at Final Cut Pro's Blend Modes, including a pre-built preview to show off the various effects. It works with the Screen and Multiply Blend Modes because of their unique properties. The chapter also works with some of the most powerful Blend Modes—the Stencil Alpha and Luma, and the Silhouette Alpha and Luma functions—which allowed us to use one image to cut through multiple layers of video. It builts a complex multilayer project of video within multiple letters of a title, all animated against a video background.
