ABSTRACT

Importing your media into FCP is a crucial part of working with the application. Before you work with FCP, especially before you import, it's important to set up your preferences, which are accessed from the Final Cut Promenu, or using the standard preferences shortcut Command. The Import tab sets your default importing behavior and is used as the import setting whenever you drag and drop to import something into your library or into a project. The default Storage Settings is In Library, which creates what's called managed media. The material will appear as a new iMovie Library together with an event with the name of the project and the project itself inside it. In the Import window the sidebar on the left is pretty self-explanatory. It gives you access to Cameras, Devices, and Favorites. The chapter looks at importing from cameras and converting media and importing still images from Photos and audio from iTunes.
