ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide an opportunity for students and beginning clinicians to think through how they might design an agency to reflect the very best in terms of goals, diversity, services, structure, and the oft-overlooked budget. Although therapists in training are exposed to myriad theories and consequent clinical skill sets, they often come up short in one area: that of agency design, purpose, and administration. Once complete, the participants regroup and each reporter describes their ideal agency using each item on the form. All participants are invited to add to the small group report. Once presented, all participants are encouraged to ask questions and engage in discussion and processing, paying attention to common themes, concerns, and divergences. One needs to be cognizant that individual agency policies and procedures must comply with the professional ethical codes of the respective practicing licensing boards, as well as the law.
