ABSTRACT

Working in teams offers greater participation, challenges and feelings of accomplishment for group members. Teamwork is a strategy that has the potential to improve both individual and organizational performances, but it needs to be nurtured over time. The facilitator should discuss the importance of teamwork, the many different ways that people work together and how, and the effects on individuals and the group if the group goal is not accomplished. The facilitator will communicate to the group that they will now have an opportunity to practice teamwork by participating in the Building a Foundation activity. The group facilitator lays out all of the materials on the table, being mindful of having enough materials to accommodate the group size. The facilitator should provide feedback on the positive dynamics that were observed while group members completed the activity. The facilitator should make the connection between what was learned during the group activity and everyday life.
