ABSTRACT

The activity is designed to help members creatively develop new coping skills, as well as to further develop positive coping skills they have already used. During this activity, group members will discuss and process past and/or current issues by using their imagination to apply new, healthy, coping skills. The primary rationale for this activity is to use pretend play, where the member creates a new persona with superpowers that can be transposed into their everyday reality as coping skills when future issues arise. During this activity, the members will discuss a variety of coping skills that they could use with current/future issues. The leader will also have the members list the coping skills they are willing to start using today, which they came up with from the discussion with their partner earlier in the session.
