ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the practical tools and suggestions to help leaders exercise safety leadership. Through an empirical framework, safety leadership can be transferable, translatable and applied within the workplace. The chapter explores the importance of the RAVE model and provide leaders with practical and easy steps to apply safety leadership within their teams and within their organisation. The components of the RAVE model are all inter-related in order to achieve the utopian vision of safety leadership. Without due to consideration of supporting safety management systems a proportion of safety leadership behaviours may not be embedded within the company. Leadership models and frameworks are plentiful and can be integrated well if contextualised wisely into an organisation's culture and safety processes. As part of developing robust working relationships, safety leaders need to have a strong moral compass, be disciplined in their approach and in turn apply discipline as needed for anyone who blatantly disregards the safety agenda.
