ABSTRACT

An increasing number of performing arts educators collaborate with scientists from the health and engineering professions to conduct performing arts science research, which has developed into a new interdisciplinary eld of inquiry. ese collaborative researchers can examine the ecient biomechanical use of the musician’s body and integrated body-mind coordination. is research informs the best practice for our pedagogues and clinicians to help prevent pain and injury and rehabilitate injured musicians. In this interdisciplinary research, various measurement modalities are applied to understand the human body and mind, including physical measurements, biomechanical and biometrical measurements, motion analysis, electromyography (EMG), and a variety of other measurement modalities.
