ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the use of Dynamic Pattern Synthesis (DPS) to explore dynamic change in micro case studies with individual people. Micro approaches are underdeveloped with quantitative case based methods. The case study in the chapter examines a sub sample of the easy SHARE data-set for the first macro case study. The chapter shows the resulting list of variables used in the Cluster Analysis (CA). The dendrogram suggests that a three or four cluster structure might compromise similarity and cluster integrity by only linking minimal differences given the size of the sample. Self-perceived health score is incrementally increasing, where an increase in score represents greater health difficulties, but we would expect this given this is a case study of people born in the same year who are getting older. The number of communications with doctors is incrementally increasing through the years and this is again what we would expect, given the increasing old age of the people in the study.
