ABSTRACT

The English transition project needs to work alongside cross-phase long-term planning with as many of the feeder primary schools involved as possible. By doing this, Year 6 pupils feel a sense of continuity from the beginning of Year 7 when they begin their new secondary English curriculum. As part of the continuing self-reflection and evaluation process that takes place throughout the Key Stage 3 (KS3) English planning cycle, the question of building in KS2 English planning successfully is frequently addressed throughout the academic year during English primary liaison meetings with the main feeder primary schools. With regard to evaluating the success of the cross-phase English primary transition project, this reflective discussion must involve the feeder primary school English teachers. There must be willingness from secondary teachers to adapt and change the English transition project, and subsequently, any long-term planning, according to the feedback given from primary colleagues.
