ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceeding chapters of the book. The book presents case studies that cover all manner of disasters arising from natural sources: fires, hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, blizzards, insects, and animals. The case studies also cover man-made disasters: accidents, structural failures, crimes, and terrorism. It considers how events might have been resolved if conditions had been different, or if key information had been known. The book describes some of the incidents that reveals how future disasters may be preventable with new technologies. It assists public administrators and first responders to prepare for the response to disaster situations to allow them to overcome all forms of adversity. Disasters can take many different forms and public administrators along with first responders will need to recognize when a unique situation is unfolding and be prepared to contend with the mitigation and recovery aspects of a disaster.
