ABSTRACT

Between December 2008 and January 2010, the author carried out a research project that focused on the planning and implementation of a piece of Danish labour market policy called, Active – Back Sooner. During 2009, he studied various instances of planning and attempts to carry out the plans, as these took place in three different organisations: an office in the Danish Labour Market Authority, a team in a municipal job centre, and a unit in a private employment agency that had won a tender put out by the municipality. As a genre that might accommodate the lack of plot or progression the author found to be characteristic of the labour market system, he chose montage. He saw intellectual montage as a technique of juxtaposing visual shots in order to elicit a specific intellectual meaning. Breakfast of Champions was the main source of inspiration for the way the author set out to write his version of an intellectual montage.
