ABSTRACT

This chapter presents three Facilitator's Guides utilizing the activities and materials in this book. The sessions are designed to be experiential in nature, not merely a "sit and get", and average between 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours in length. It is recommended that each teacher has a copy of Everyday Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in hand during the Professional Development (PD) session to make notes in real time after experientially participating in each activity. This process will help the teachers engage in "split vision" and mentally bridge the gap between learner and facilitator. After each activity, the facilitator cues the participants to turn to the corresponding page in Everyday SEL to take notes in the margin. Building Teacher SEL Competency School is concurrently a personal and interpersonal enterprise for students. To reinforce SEL's balance between Self-Efficacy and Social Harmony, the next step of the curriculum is for our students to work collaboratively on a Service Learning Project.
