ABSTRACT

The SEL activities are broken up into two chapters: SELF and SOCIAL. These practices are designed for whole-class implementation, not for a few "problem students" to implement on their own or only with a social worker. Once the POP Chart is established, the activities become part of your class check-in routine. The activities are either written as extended scripts, which include extensive classroom management cues and pacing suggestions, or are written simply as activities, to be read aloud by the teacher or implemented as directed. The activities are experiential in nature and empower students to read and respond proactively to their bodies' cues. The union between the body and mind is cultivated through four interconnected disciplines: Vocalization; Movement; Stillness; and Team-building. Ultimately, the goal is to utilize a mix of Mindful Practices to build Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, and Social Awareness so that one can find the balance between Self-Efficacy and Social Harmony.
