ABSTRACT

'Countertransference': how raw and unsophisticated is our psychoanalytic vocabulary. For the relationals, there is no 'counter' in the therapeutic 'encounter': both participants are equally involved and contributing to it and no one can stand out and have a view of it from a distance or above. Patient was the centre of her caring universe and this centre could not hold anymore. Her partner did not know how to deal with her collapse and her daughters felt abandoned. First, she was able to secure early medical retirement which eased her anxiety regarding work and source of income creating thus a sense of material security. She was desperately alone facing an impossible situation and being blamed for something that was not her fault. She needed to relive the source of her trauma in order to experience a new beginning. Her whole life had to be 'rebooted' so as to start from scratch.
