ABSTRACT

Managerial strategies aid the efficient and equitable distribution of available resources throughout the district as well as the school. They ensure consistency in meeting the needs of a diverse population. The tally summarizes the number of students in an elementary or middle school grade as well as the number of secondary students who request a specific course in each department. Determining equitable distribution of full-time equivalents (FTEs) in light of course requests may be the single most important managerial strategy in secondary schools. Primarily a high school strategy, it may be needed in middle schools if the exploratory/electives portion of the schedule is highly individualized or core courses are leveled. After calculating the total number of teachers desired for each department, the FTE request must conform to the total allocated by the superintendent. The chart reflects equitable distribution among departments. If the total number requested exceeds the allotment, a reduction is needed.
