ABSTRACT

As in a classroom where target learning guides instruction, the mission/vision statement serves as the target for decision-making. This is no less true in seeking out an efficient and equitable schedule than in seeking the curriculum that best meets the needs of students to be served. Any decision that affects faculty and must be implemented by them benefits from their expertise. During scheduling discussions, aspects of scheduling require understanding by all involved grade-level and exploratory/elective staff. During common planning time, teachers make decisions about placement and levels of Response to Intervention (RtI) relying on student data and feedback from all teachers and support staff. When choosing the primary framework and inserts, the committee consistently uses the mission/vision statement to guide decisions. Evolving from the blueprint, the grid of teachers' assignments allows the visualization of each teacher's assignment and, ultimately, the actual number of full-time equivalents (FTEs).
