ABSTRACT

A civic nation needs to promote understanding of the ideals of pluralism and reasoned commitment to the values and principles of democracy. Sohail was born and raised in a 'Western country' and praised his parents because they had 'faced a lot of adversity, living as minorities'. Fahid not only shared his love of science and technology, but also discussed his goal of working for the betterment of humanity. Fahid blamed religious intolerance on biased teachings in Pakistani schools. Azum claimed that his ethnic and cultural background had bothered Irish people, particularly the working-class people of his neighbourhood. Azmat is an especially pertinent interviewee, because he challenged the assumption that Muslims cannot be patriotic Americans. In recent years, the Irish have scrambled to save arguably the most prized part of their culture.
