ABSTRACT
Chapter 6 described in some detail moments that have stayed with us throughout our lives. We acknowledged that the individuals concerned often did not deliberately set out to humiliate us and would be mortified to know that these events had remained in our memories. Similarly, the moments that we reflect on in this chapter have spoken to us across the years although the advice or support we were offered was probably forgotten in an instant by the person giving it. One of the difficulties for teachers is that we can never predict when a ‘critical incident’ for one of our students is taking place.
