ABSTRACT

Itwasarguedinchapter1thatcriticalthinkingcanbe describedasthepropensityandskilltoengageinanactivity withreflectivescepticism.Thismighthaveseemedatthe timetobefartoosimpleasolutiontoanevensimpler problem,butsubsequentchaptershaveshowninhow manyandoftendiversewaystheconceptofcritical thinkinghasbeenfirstmisconstruedandthenusedasa basisforvariousteachingprogrammesandstandardized tests.Wearenowinapositiontoappreciatethe importanceofbeingclearaboutthemeaningofcritical thinking,ameaningthatshouldnotbelostintheprocess oftryingtoteachortestforit.Thelogicoftheconcept,asit were,precludessomeproceduresandpermitsothers. Whataresomeofthemorepracticalconsequencesthatcan beinferredfromthisanalysis?
