ABSTRACT
This chapter builds on a synthesis of much of the analysis presented in prior chapters in order to advance theoretical development in the areas of contemporary urban policy and planning, as well as present creative and innovative policy recommendations to support improved urbanism and urban regeneration in the North American context. Recommendations include raising the minimum wage, planning for and investment in social housing and integrating the strategic use of brownfield land into area-wide planning initiatives. By emphasizing the impacts of neoliberal urban policies on low-income communities, we hope to promote more inclusive, democratic and equitable urban planning strategies.
