ABSTRACT

This chapter explores successful business strategies starting with cash-flow. Time Inc. UK's List for Life launch in 2016 from its Innovation Lab as an online start-up will also be evaluated. Achieving balance in terms of cash-flow is often the difference between success and failure. The biggest challenge is to generate sufficient revenue to sustain the business and cover all expenditure – from salaries, printing, distribution and marketing to finance, professional fees and services. The key to developing a successful business may depend on many variants, such as the genre, type of magazine, market position and distribution model. Technology has provided the means for such creative designs as well as new ways to bring editorial alive, with vivid layouts plus supporting audio and video too. The chapter also explores the essential components of a profitable publication and given advice on good business practice, success comes down to two factors – content and the team.
