ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses how a teacher goes about planning a test, choosing which item formats to use, deciding on the difficulty level of the items, and producing the test. It also discusses how to set up an appropriate testing environment and how to administer a test. Many new teachers develop classroom tests without spending enough time planning what they want to do. Speeded tests are tests with very specific time limits. They are designed to see how quickly students can perform certain simple tasks. The instructions need to describe the number of items and the number of pages on the test. They should include directions on what the students need do to complete the items and any special instructions. Instructions should also include the time limits. In the directions before each section, one should also list the point value of each question.
