ABSTRACT

This chapter features the George Miller III Children's Center (GMIII), and describes the school's focus on observation, reflection, documentation, and project work. In addition to presenting Ambreen's perspective on implementing reflective practices at the school over the last several years, the chapter features the reflection and documentation work of four teachers. Over the last 10 years, Ambreen has deepened her understanding of the overall value and specific benefits, as well as the problematic aspects, of reflection and documentation work for the teachers, children, and families. Ambreen and the teachers decorate the room with flowers, center pieces, and table covers to make it inviting for everyone to gather as a community. Monthly parent meetings allow families to learn more about center-wide projects and parents' roles in the learning process. Ambreen structures these meetings so that each month the teaching teams from two different classrooms present their current project-based work with the families.
