ABSTRACT
And so I reach the end of my journey through forty years of Afghan music history. By the time this book is published it will be 2015, the year in which USA and ISAF combat troops are to be finally withdrawn and the Afghans left (largely) to their own devices. What lessons have we learned about the music of Afghanistan in relation to its wider social and cultural contexts and what outcomes can we predict for its future?
