ABSTRACT
InanopenspaceontheleftbankoftheriverRoche,andinthe mostpublicthoroughfareinthetown,isadrinkingfountainerected bytheSocietyandmadeovertothetownauthoritiesonApril19th, 1855,inthefollowingterms:-"Tothemayor,aldermen,and burgessesofRochdale:OnbehalfofthemembersoftheRochdale EquitablePioneers'Societywebegtopresenttoyou,fortheuseof theinhabitantsofandstrangersvisitingthetownofRochdale,the bronzedrinkingfountainandlamperectedatthebottomofDrake Street,oppositetheWellingtonHotel.Hopingthatyouwillaccept thesameinthespiritinwhichitisgiven,andthatitmaylongbe auseandanornamenttothetown,isthesinceredesireofyours, veryrespectfully,onbehalfoftheRochdaleEquitablePioneers' Society,"J·oHNCocKCROFT,President.
