ABSTRACT

This chapter examines some references to photography written by Florence himself after 1839. As soon as he found out about Daguerre’s achievements in France, Florence recognized that the right moment to disclose his own discovery had come and decided to publish a communication on this subject in a periodical in Sao Paulo. The same work by Bourroul, reads: “From a historical list written by invitation of Mr. Joaquim Antonio Pinto Jr.” In that year of 1832, on August 15th, when walking on terrace, it occurred to that perhaps it would be possible to fix images from the dark chamber by means of a body that could change its color by the action of light. The manuscript Correspondance et Pièces Scientifiques contains another reference to the year 1832. It is letter, which have mentioned before, sent to Charles Auguste Taunay. The letter, which is included in this volume, is quite long; there, Florence refers to practically all his discoveries.
