ABSTRACT

On March 30th, 1976, thanks to Professor Charles Arnold, the author had opportunity of being in contact with Dr. Lothar K. Engelmann who, at that time, was the Dean of the Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Graphic Arts and Photography, a traditional academic institution in United States, committed to the teaching of photography. The “Preliminary Report” from July 25th, 1976, offers, as a result of the experiments that were performed, the following clarifications: two types of papers were used as supports, that is, newsprint and barite coated paper. With regard to the procedures, Professor Hill explained that exposures were made by means of an equipment for copies by contact, in plain sunlight, and that “constant verifications were carried out to follow the evolution of the formation of images.” A Congress organized by the Rochester Photographic Historical Society, New York, in October 1976. The colloquium took place in the auditorium of the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House.
