ABSTRACT

It was indeed beautiful, but I did not much admire the outside, except the windows with their one large and two small lights. Will not this be the difference between the architecture that is to come and that which is past? The one was in honour of the Trinity, and the builders had a superstitious reverence for the number three, and for the sign of the cross, &c. We live in an age when we feel a clinging to the old forms, and long to preserve them, but why should we continue mere imitations? Instead of building a window with three lights, teach what those lights are.
