ABSTRACT
You once said that you believed that love of family and friends and of nation was an extended form of selfishness. You surely meant that we might feel what we call love for all these, in a selfish spirit, but that love can be identical with selfishness is to me impossible ; or that it is impossible to love friends, nations, mankind generously I cannot believe.
