ABSTRACT
I believe, with you, that national life is but an extension of family life, that each nation, like each individual of a family, has an individual character, fitted for its spiritual work in the world. I believe the love of country to be an instrument for calling men out of their selfishness for themselves and families, and filling them with generous thoughts. I believe its tendency is to make them respect different natures. For all these reasons I prize this national life and love it so much.
