ABSTRACT

Thou wilt receive in a few days my St. Michael, emblem of that strength that should belong to all Christian lives, strength to conquer, and also to bear. I believe I shall not remain at the College much longer. It is satisfactory, if change must come, that it should be because work is completed, given into better hands, one's own having in no way failed. I should have dreaded to put myself out of communication with people so wise and noble as Mr. Maurice and Miss Sterling, but I dare not fear the break, coming as it will. For my drawing I cannot but feel deeply thankful; any other work that I undertake I shall try to make fragmentary, giving place easily to this, my great life-work.
