The study sets out to define the range of “person” under discussion. The term “person” in linguistics is commonly taken as synonymous with “personal pronoun,” which is but one form of realization of deictic reference to a participant in a speech event. Strictly speaking, “person” in this sense falls into the category of “grammatical person” and on no account represents the actual functioning of language in identifying and distinguishing participant roles in discourses.
