Ofthetwentythousand"youngladies"workingasMillinersandDressmakersinthemetropolisitisdifficulttosayhowmanybelongtothe ''honourable''partofthetrade-thatistosay,tothebetterpaidandbetter fedportionofit.Theonlymeansofarrivingatanyconclusiononthispoint isbyconsultingtheregistryofthatmostadmirableinstitution,theDressmakers'andMilliners'Association.Thereareupwardsof7,500names enteredonthebooksofthatestablishment;ofthese,I,500,Iaminformed, areemployedinthecountry,theremaining6,000beingengagedbythe betterclassofmillinersanddressmakersinLondon.AstheAssociation supplies"hands"onlytothemorerespectablehouses,wemayassumethat thereareupwardsoftenthousandyoungwomenworkingforthe"dishonourable,''orsloppartofthetrade.
