ThroughthecourtesyoftheCommissionersofPolice,Ihaveobtaineda returnofthenumberofthejuvenileandadultoffendersapprehendedinthe B,orWestminsterdivisionforaseriesofyears.Thecommissionershave, moreover,inthemostkindandconsideratemanner,giveninstructionsto thesuperintendentsoftheotherdivisionsthroughoutthemetropolisto preparesimilarreturnsforme,sothatImaybeabletotesttheinfluenceof theLondonRaggedSchoolsuponthedifferentdistricts.Ofthismost valuableinformationIpurposeavailingmyselfwhenIcometotreatofthe habits,haunts,andcharacteroftheLondonCriminalsingeneral-adultas wellasjuvenile,whichIpurposedoingattheearliestopportunity-and when,throughthekindnessofInspectorWalker,ofthestatistical departmentofthepolice,towhoseintelligenceandexperienceIalready standindebtedformanysimilarfavours,Ishallbeenabledtoavailmyselfof manymostvaluableandnovelfactsinconnectionwiththeCrimeofthe Metropolis.
