ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The stress wave caused by underground explosion is usually assumed to propagate across rock masses in cylindrical form. The cylindrical wave propagation is a great concern of underground structure safety. This paper presents a study on cylindrical P-wave propagation across a single joint with linear elastic behavior using UDEC software. A semicircular cylindrical cavity is established at the bottom of the model to simulate the cylindrical wave loading. By calculation, UDEC is proved to be efficient to simulate cylindrical wave propagation. For the simplified UDEC models, the corresponding transmission and reflection coefficients are obtained. Parametric studies are carried out to investigate the influence of joint stiffness, the frequency of incident waveandthe position of monitoring point on the transmission and reflection coefficients.
