ABSTRACT

The Advanced Sense Memory Exercises are performed in the same way as the Foundation Sense Memory Exercises – through a full and detailed exploration of each sense. The Advanced Sense Memory Exercises include personal object exercise, place exercises, guided childhood place exercise, childhood room exercise, private moment exercise, emotional memory exercise and combining the exercises. Lee Strasberg designed and taught the exercises in a definite sequence for actors to first develop control over their senses before moving on to the more emotional exercises. As actor in training master them, he combine the exercises, which tests his sensory abilities by rising to more complex human conditions where behavior involves multiple activities and calls for emotional depth. As with the other Sensory Exercises, the Abstract or Additional Movement should be used while he is working to further activate his instrument by remembering an additional task and moving at the same time.
