ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the influence of politics and civil war on the cooperative movement in Uganda. The once powerful cooperative movement is today weak and subject to political capture and economic mismanagement. Democratic rural organizations have recently emerged in Uganda with the support and facilitation of NGOs and development programmes.
