ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews how the Security Council, the preeminent interpellator of threats to international peace and security, has addressed the environment and natural resources in its Resolutions. It provides empirical data and analysis on how the environment has been securitized. The chapter examines the effects of the Cold War on the Security Council and the Security Council's response to threats to international peace. The chapter surveys how the Security Council has viewed natural resources in the past, how its perception has changed over the years, and how it has addressed various natural resources in its Resolutions.
